Day 6: Pouto Point to Auckland

It was fun talking with other riders that came in after us. Everyone barreled in looking like death and first words, like ours, were special terms of endearment for the road to Hell. Except the Kiwi guys who were just laughing at how awful that was...as they pulled in after midnight.

When the boat arrived, we loaded our stuff on but just after we pulled away, we saw two riders on the beach. Luckily the captain agreed to go back and get them. Lucky guys! They had some mechanical issues and road all morning on that road to get here in time.

These bikes are the most legit things I've seen. These are the true bikepackers here.

It was fun talking to everyone from different walks of life and the different set ups...and different foods. A guy we call Corned Lamb is attempting the route in 14 days! He got his nickname because on the ferry was eating a can of corned lamb. Like eating it straight out of the can. Maybe that's his secret. If it is, is not worth it to me. Regardless, I can't even remember his real name.

The rest of the day we spent getting to Auckland. It was such a late start and we didn't make it to Kathryn and Rogers until almost 9pm. Gah I HATE navigating in city streets. I was so relieved to arrive.

And this is the biggest and. Eat veggie burger I've ever eaten!!!
